Quest Reborn Wave Defense in Dungeon Quest
Endless packs, a boss every five waves, and a mode that stops after the early list.
Wave Defense (the client often spells it Wave Defence) is the optional Create Dungeon toggle that deletes the story timer and replaces the hallway with endless waves. Packs spawn on a loop. A boss shows about every five waves. A loot cycle is commonly talked about as fifteen waves: a pile of trash mobs plus three bosses. Dead teammates can come back when a wave boss dies. Every fifteen waves, remaining monsters get a noticeable stat bump — community notes sit near +25%. You are not racing a clock. You are racing boredom, wipes, and whether the map you picked still offers the mode.
This page sits next to How to level fast. The video in the middle is a real level-up tape that spends time on Wave Defense and why you should not solo the early grind. Watch it, then come back to the map list so you do not queue a door that lost the toggle.
Which maps still have the toggle
The important 2026 sentence: Wave Defense is not on the whole dungeon list. Since December 2023 the mode has been unavailable on Ghastly Harbor and everything after it, on remastered versions of the early maps, and on Boss Raids. Players who remember “Wave Defense until The Canals” are describing the live habit, not a rumor. Desert Temple, Winter Outpost, Pirate Island, King’s Castle, The Underworld, Samurai Palace, and The Canals are the names people still type when they want the hose. Confirm the checkbox in Create Dungeon. If the toggle is missing, you are on a remaster or a late door — switch the map, do not refresh twenty times.
Northern Lands, Gilded Skies, Yokai Peak, and Abyssal Void are story timers. They are not Wave Defense farms. The dungeon checker will send you to those doors for gear. Come back here for XP on an early Nightmare you can hold.
Some bosses never spawn in the coliseum because the arena cannot host their kit. Captain Blackbeard and Kolvumar are the usual examples. If a wave “boss” looks like a miniboss you already know, that is expected. You are here for XP and gold, not a full story clear.
How a clean hour looks
Pick the highest early map your party can hold on Nightmare. Easy Wave Defense is a sightseeing tour. Nightmare Wave Defense is why veterans still open the toggle. Invite friends. Online parties clear packs faster and recover from a slam. Solo is possible on Desert Temple; it is a slow way to learn Controls.
One damage stat. Matching armor. Two abilities. A Warrior or Mage that already works on a story Insane will work here. A tank or healer only helps if chat asked — most Wave rooms want someone who deletes the wave, not someone who taunts the air.
Call the five-wave boss. Stack for the revive. Do not start a snack break on wave 14 if two people are already down. Titles exist for high wave counts (community talk still mentions 30 / 100 / 300 as the souvenir marks). Chase a title on a lower difficulty if you care about the badge. Chase XP on Nightmare.
VIP and XP boosts multiply the same loop. Extra Item does not change wave spawn; it changes how much the story chest would have paid, which is not why you are here. Hardcore is a story-map loot toggle. Wave Defense already removed the timer — do not confuse the two checkboxes.
When to stop waving and go back to a hallway
Leave Wave Defense when:
- Your Nightmare hold on The Canals feels cheap and you need gear from a later door.
- The party wants legendaries that only roll on story Nightmare chests.
- You unlocked Lobby 2 and a fair trade jumps you a whole weapon tier.
- You are trying to learn Odin, Vytelus, Sarugami, or The Voidborn. Those patterns do not spawn in the coliseum.
A week that is only Wave Defense makes a high level with a mid-game sword. Levels are not a build. Spend the new points in the skill planner, then run a story Nightmare so the Weapons and Armor lists can catch up.
What this mode is not
It is not a code. Codes are still empty. Daily rewards still want the official group. It is not a script. Auto-wave menus in the Scripts Hub are how accounts get deleted. It is not Abyssal Void practice. The void is a different health game.
The mode exists because an old community poll picked it over PvP. Raids arrived later as their own queue. PvP never became the Dungeon Quest you are playing. Play the toggle while it exists on your map. If Voldex ever brings Wave Defense back to remasters or late doors, the Updates Hub will say so. Until then, treat “Wave Defense on Yokai” as a thumbnail lie.
Bring friends. A quiet four-stack on Nightmare Canals will out-level a solo who is still searching for a code box that is not there.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Which dungeons still have Wave Defense?
Early story maps through The Canals on non-remaster clients. Ghastly Harbor, later doors, remasters, and Boss Raids dropped the toggle.
Is Wave Defense better XP than a story Nightmare?
On a map you can hold, yes. Leave when you need later-door gear or Legendary chests those waves cannot drop.
Does Hardcore work here?
Hardcore is the story-map one-life loot toggle. Wave Defense is a different checkbox. Do not mix the two sentences.
Can I Wave Defense Abyssal Void?
No. The late list is a timed hallway. Use the Abyssal Void guide for that door.
